Kingsland Headache Treatment

The primary objective of chiropractic care is find and reduce the underlying cause of your headache.

Headaches are not normal.

They are a sign that something is wrong. Your body is designed to be free of pain. Some people have hurt for so long they forget what feeling good feels like. Throbbing, pounding pain in your skull that doesn’t seem to go away is not normal. Neither is the nauseous feeling that comes whenever you go out on a sunny day or see a bright light.

Too may headache suffers and their doctor’s rely on the quick fix approach of pain killers. Instead of taking control of their headaches, they go on the run from them, becoming a victim, acting defensively. Over time the headache sufferer becomes more and more dependent on painkillers, and the painkillers become less and less effective. This quick fix approach creates a rebound, a state of never ending headaches along with the inability to respond to conservative treatment that would otherwise help to control them. Your problem is not always where your pain is.

Even though you may be feeling your headaches in your sinuses or on the top of your head, that doesn’t mean necessarily that is where the cause of the problem is located. For instance, often times people with a bulging disc in their low back experience pain, weakness and numbing in their legs, and their back feels fine. There isn’t anything wrong with their legs, the source is higher.

One of the most common causes of headaches that does not originate in the head is called a “Cervicogenic headache”.

“”The Cervicogenic Headache has it’s origin in the area of the neck. The source of pain is found in the structures around the neck which have been damaged. These structures include the joints, ligaments, muscles and cervical discs, all of which have complex nerve endings. When these structures are under stress, the nerve endings send pain signals from the pathways in the neck to the brain. During this process, they intermingle with the nerve fibers of the trigeminal nerve. Since the trigeminal nerve is responsible for perception of head pain, the patient therefore experiences the symptoms of a headache.”

Peter Rothbart, M.D.

You may have a Cervicogenic Headache if you answer “Yes” to any of these questions:

  • Has your neck ever experienced trauma?
  • Have you ever been in a car accident?
  • Have you ever played football or taken tumbling?
  • Have you experienced many “minor” injuries?
  • Is your neck stiff or at times, hard to move?
  • As a child, did you experience a fall or injury that you have forgotten?
  • Do you sit in front of a computer for several hours a day?
  • Have you been stomach sleeper?

If you answered yes to at least one of the previous questions, your headache may be caused by a hidden condition in your neck.

There is an amazing type of drug-less non-surgical care that may help you. Studies have shown that the safest and most natural neck treatment to Cervicogenic Headaches is conservative chiropractic care.

People with all types of headaches respond extremely well.

Upper Cervical trained Chiropractors are few in number because it takes an additional two years of post graduate training, studying the brain-stem and structures that impact the brain. These doctors all have extensive training and take 3 dimensional x-rays of the upper neck to see if the C1 vertebrae, or“Atlas” is off center. This 2 ounce vertebrae holds the skull which weighs between 10- 14 pounds. If the Atlas is off center, and rotated it can cause a host of problems in the body, headaches being one of them. Many major nerve pathways, including the Trigeminal nerve become irritated when the Atlas if not balanced.

Only an Upper Cervical trained Chiropractor is qualified to reduce the tension and stress on these nerves and it is done with no manipulation. A highly attuned percussion instrument applies the adjustment, it is a very specific and non invasive procedure.
